ततश्चण्डोदरी नाम राक्षसी क्रूरदर्शना ।
भ्रामयन्ती महच्छूलमिदं वचनमब्रवीत् ।

Tataścaṇḍodarī nāma rākṣasī krūradarśanā । Bhrāmayantī mahacchūlamidaṃ vacanamabravīt । । ॥5-22-33॥
Translation
Then a Rakshasi named Chandodari, of cruel appearance, twirling a huge spear, spoke these words.

तब क्रूर दिखने वाली 'चण्डोदरी' नाम की राक्षसी, एक विशाल शूल (भाला) घुमाती हुई यह वचन बोली।
English Commentary
Specific tormentors now step forward. Chandodari, whose name implies a fierce or terrible belly, is introduced with the epithet krūradarśanā (cruel-looking). The visual imagery of her 'twirling a huge spear' (bhrāmayantī mahacchūlam) adds a kinetic element to the threat. It is not just verbal abuse anymore; there is an imminent physical danger. This sets the stage for the specific, gruesome fantasies of violence that follow.

यहाँ से विशिष्ट राक्षसियों का परिचय और उनकी व्यक्तिगत धमकियाँ शुरू होती हैं। 'चण्डोदरी' (भयानक पेट वाली) का वर्णन 'क्रूरदर्शना' के रूप में किया गया है। उसके हाथ में 'महच्छूल' (विशाल शूल) है जिसे वह घुमा रही है। यह दृश्य भय का वातावरण बनाने के लिए है। शूल घुमाना एक हिंसक शारीरिक भाषा है जो शब्दों से पहले ही डर पैदा करती है। वाल्मीकि जी ने यहाँ सीता की असहाय अवस्था और राक्षसियों की भयावहता का सजीव चित्रण किया है।
