राक्षसीनां वचः श्रुत्वा सीता पद्मनिभेक्षणा ।
नेत्राभ्यामश्रुपूर्णाभ्यामिदं वचनमब्रवीत् ।

rākṣasīnāṃ vacaḥ śrutvā sītā padmanibhekṣaṇā |
netrābhyāmaśrupūrṇābhyāmidam vacanamabravīt ॥5-22-5॥
Translation
Hearing the words of the Rakshasis, Sita, whose eyes resembled lotuses, spoke these words with eyes full of tears.

उन राक्षसियों के वचन सुनकर, कमल के समान नेत्रों वाली सीता ने, आंसुओं से भरे हुए नेत्रों के साथ यह वचन कहा।
English Commentary
This verse captures the emotional toll of the verbal assault. Sita is described as 'padmanibhekṣaṇā' (lotus-eyed), a symbol of purity and divine beauty, contrasting with the ugliness of her surroundings. Her tears are not just of fear, but of pain caused by the slander of her husband. The narrative pauses on her reaction to show that while her spirit is strong, her heart is tender.
