सीताया वचनं श्रुत्वा राक्षस्यः क्रोधमूर्छिताः ।
भर्त्सयन्ति स्म परुषैर्वाक्यै रावणचोदिताः ।

sītāyā vacanaṃ śrutvā rākṣasyaḥ krodhamūrchitāḥ |
bhartsayanti sma paruṣairvākyai rāvaṇacoditāḥ ॥5-22-8॥
Translation
Hearing Sita's words, the Rakshasis, urged by Ravana, became senseless with anger and began to threaten her with harsh words.
हिंदी अनुवाद
सीता के (ऐसे दृढ़) वचन सुनकर, रावण से प्रेरित वे राक्षसी क्रोध से पागल हो उठीं और कठोर वचनों से उन्हें डराने-धमकाने लगीं।
English Commentary
Sita's defiance acts as a catalyst for the Rakshasis' rage. Realizing that persuasion and insults have failed, and driven by the mandate given by Ravana ('rāvaṇacoditāḥ'), they escalate their aggression. The term 'krodhamūrchitāḥ' (fainted/blinded by anger) suggests they have lost all sense of restraint. This marks the transition from verbal negotiation to terror tactics. The verse highlights the precariousness of Sita’s situation—she has provoked her guards, and they are now reacting with the fury of those who are both powerful and subservient to a tyrant.

सीता की निडरता और स्पष्ट अस्वीकृति ने राक्षसियों के अहंकार को चोट पहुँचाई। 'रावणचोदिताः' (रावण द्वारा प्रेरित/आज्ञा प्राप्त) शब्द महत्वपूर्ण है—वे केवल अपने क्रोध से नहीं, बल्कि राजा की आज्ञा के दबाव में कार्य कर रही हैं। वे जानती हैं कि यदि वे सफल नहीं हुईं तो रावण का कोप उन पर बरसेगा। इसलिए वे 'क्रोधमूर्छिताः' (अत्यधिक क्रोधित) होकर पुनः सीता को धमकाने लगती हैं। यह दृश्य तनाव को बढ़ाता है, जहाँ एक अकेली नारी उग्र भीड़ का सामना कर रही है।
