अवलीनः स निर्वाक्यो हनुमाञ्शिंशपाद्रुमे ।
सीतां सन्तर्जयन्तीस्ता राक्षसीरशृणोत्कपिः ।

avalīnaḥ sa nirvākyo hanumāñśiṃśapādrume |
sītāṃ santarjayantīstā rākṣasīraśṛṇotkapiḥ ॥5-22-9॥
Translation
Hidden in the Shimshapa tree and silent, that monkey (Hanuman) listened to those Rakshasis threatening Sita.

शिंशपा वृक्ष पर छिपा हुआ वह वानर (हनुमान), बिना कुछ बोले (चुपचाप), सीता को धमकाती हुई उन राक्षसियों को सुन रहा था।
English Commentary
The narrative briefly shifts focus to Hanuman, the silent witness. His description as 'nirvākyo' (speechless/silent) is crucial; despite witnessing the abuse of Mother Sita, which surely angers him, he maintains strict discipline to not jeopardize his mission. He is 'avalīnaḥ' (concealed) in the Shimshapa tree, gathering intelligence. This verse serves a structural purpose: it reassures the audience that relief is at hand and validates the events as objective reality witnessed by a third party, not just a dialogue between victim and oppressor.
