तथा तासां वदन्तीनां परुषं दारुणं बहु ।
राक्षसीनामसौम्यानां रुरोद जनकात्मजा ।

॥५-२३-१॥
Tathā tāsāṃ vadantīnāṃ paruṣaṃ dāruṇaṃ bahu । Rākṣasīnāmasaumyānāṃ ruroda janakātmajā । । ॥5-23-1॥
Translation
As those ungentle Rakshasis spoke many harsh and dreadful words, the daughter of Janaka wept.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उन असौम्य (क्रूर) राक्षसियों के बहुत से कठोर और भयानक वचन बोलने पर, जनकनंदिनी सीता रोने लगीं।
English Commentary
The narrative continues emphasizing the contrast between the aggressors and the victim. The Rakshasis are asaumyānāṃ (void of gentleness/unpleasant), raining down words that are paruṣaṃ (harsh) and dāruṇaṃ (dreadful). Sita is identified as Janakātmajā (Janaka's daughter), reminding us of her noble lineage. The repetition of her weeping highlights the continuous, unrelenting nature of the trauma she is enduring.

यहाँ से 23वां सर्ग (अध्याय) प्रारंभ होता है। वाल्मीकि जी पुनः सीता जी की स्थिति का वर्णन करते हैं। राक्षसियों को 'असौम्यानां' (जिनमें सौम्यता का अभाव है) कहा गया है। उनके वचन 'परुष' (कठोर) और 'दारुण' (भयानक) हैं। 'जनकात्मजा' (जनक की पुत्री) शब्द का प्रयोग यह याद दिलाने के लिए है कि वह एक महान कुल की हैं, फिर भी आज नियति ने उन्हें ऐसी स्थिति में ला खड़ा किया है जहाँ वे केवल रो सकती हैं।
