हा रामेति च दुःखार्ता पुनर्हा लक्ष्मणेति च ।
हा श्वश्रु मम कौसल्ये हा सुमित्रेति भाविनि ।

Hā rāmeti ca duḥkhārtā punarhā lakṣmaṇeti ca |
Hā śvaśru mama kausalye hā sumitreti bhāvini ॥5-23-11॥
Translation
Overcome with grief, she cried out repeatedly, "Oh Rama! Oh Lakshmana! Oh my mother-in-law Kausalya! Oh noble Sumitra!"

दुख से व्याकुल होकर वह बार-बार पुकारने लगीं—"हा राम! हा लक्ष्मण! हा मेरी सासू माँ कौशल्या! हा सुमित्रा!"
English Commentary
In moments of acute crisis, one instinctively calls out to their protectors and loved ones. Sita cries out for Rama and Lakshmana, believing in their power to save her. However, this verse also reveals her deep-rooted cultural values and affection for her family, as she also laments for her mothers-in-law, Kausalya and Sumitra. Even in the face of death and terror, she remembers the elders of the family. This invocation highlights her intense feeling of isolation; she is surrounded by enemies, and by calling out these names, she is reaching out to the memory of those who love her, emphasizing her current helplessness.

घोर संकट के समय व्यक्ति अपने सबसे प्रिय और रक्षक जनों को याद करता है। सीता जी यहाँ अपने पति श्रीराम और देवर लक्ष्मण को याद करती हैं, जो उनकी रक्षा करने में सक्षम हैं। किन्तु, यहाँ सीता जी के संस्कारों और प्रेम की गहराई भी देखिए कि वे अपनी सासू माताओं—कौशल्या और सुमित्रा—को भी याद कर रही हैं। यह दर्शाता है कि वन में होते हुए भी और मृत्यु के भय के सम्मुख खड़े होकर भी, उनका पारिवारिक प्रेम और बड़ों के प्रति सम्मान कम नहीं हुआ है। वह स्वयं को अकेली महसूस कर रही हैं और अपने परिजनों को पुकार कर अपने मन का गुबार निकाल रही हैं।
