यत्राहमाभिः क्रूराभी राक्षसीभिरिहार्दिता ।
जीवामि हीना रामेण मुहूर्तमपि दुःखिता ।

Yatrāhamābhiḥ krūrābhī rākṣasībhirihārditā |
Jīvāmi hīnā rāmeṇa muhūrtamapi duḥkhitā ॥5-23-13॥
Translation
(Since death is rare before its time) That is why, even though tormented by these cruel Rakshasis and separated from Rama, I, the miserable one, continue to live even for a moment.

(मृत्यु दुर्लभ है) इसीलिए तो इन क्रूर राक्षसियों द्वारा पीडित की जाने पर और राम से रहित होने पर भी, मैं दुखियारा एक मुहूर्त (क्षण) के लिए भी जीवित हूँ।
English Commentary
Connecting to the previous thought about the inevitability of one's lifespan, Sita laments the fact that she is physically surviving. She identifies two main sources of her torture: the external torment by the cruel Rakshasis and the internal agony of separation from Rama. To her, it is incomprehensible that she can survive without Rama even for a muhurta (a fleeting moment). She views her continued existence not as resilience, but as a cruel twist of fate that forces her to endure pain that should ideally have been fatal. This underscores the depth of her devotion; life without Rama is viewed as unnatural and burdensome.

सीता जी पिछले श्लोक के विचार को ही आगे बढ़ा रही हैं। वह आश्चर्य और खेद व्यक्त कर रही हैं कि इतना मानसिक और शारीरिक आघात सहने के बाद भी उनका हृदय फट क्यों नहीं गया। 'रामेण हीना' (राम के बिना) जीवित रहना उनके लिए सबसे बड़ा आश्चर्य है, क्योंकि राम ही उनके प्राण हैं। साथ ही, राक्षसियों की धमकियाँ और क्रूरता भी उन्हें मार नहीं पाई। वह अपने जीवित रहने को ही अपने दुर्भाग्य का प्रमाण मानती हैं। यह श्लोक विरह की चरम सीमा को दर्शाता है जहाँ प्रेमी के लिए प्रिय के बिना एक क्षण भी जीवित रहना मृत्यु से बदतर होता है।
