सर्वथा तेन हीनाया रामेण विदितात्मना ।
तीष्क्णं विषम ivāsṫādya दुर्लभं मम जीवितम् ।
।
॥५-२३-१७॥
Sarvathā tena hīnāyā rāmeṇa viditātmanā |
Tīkṣṇaṃ viṣamivāsvādya durlabhaṃ mama jīvitam ॥5-23-17॥
Translation
Separated entirely from that self-realized Rama, my life has become as difficult to sustain as it is for one who has consumed potent poison.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस आत्मज्ञानी राम से सर्वथा वियुक्त होकर मेरा जीवन, तीक्ष्ण विष पी लेने के बाद (बचे रहना) जैसे कठिन होता है, वैसे ही दुर्लभ (कठिन) हो गया है।
English Commentary
Sita compares her separation from Rama to the act of swallowing potent poison. Usually, consuming sharp (tikshna) poison leads to death, but Sita is in a state where she has consumed the poison of separation yet remains alive to feel the burning agony. She refers to Rama as viditatmana (one who knows the self/lofty soul), highlighting that losing such a partner is not just an emotional loss but a spiritual one. The phrase "life is difficult" (durlabham) here implies that sustaining her life force in his absence is an excruciating struggle, akin to the physical torture of poisoning.

सीता जी कहती हैं कि राम 'विदितात्मा' (आत्मज्ञानी/महान आत्मा) हैं, और उनसे अलग होकर जीना असंभव है। उन्होंने यहाँ विरह की तुलना 'तीक्ष्ण विष' (तेज जहर) से की है। साधारणतः विष पीने के बाद मृत्यु हो जाती है, लेकिन सीता जी के लिए यह विरह ऐसा विष है जिसे पीकर भी वह मर नहीं पा रही हैं, केवल तड़प रही हैं। विष पीकर जीवित रहना जितना कष्टदायक और असंभव प्रतीत होता है, राम के बिना जीना उनके लिए उतना ही यंत्रणादायक है। यहाँ 'दुर्लभं' का अर्थ है कि जीवन को बनाए रखना अत्यंत कठिन हो गया है।
