Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सा राक्षसीमध्यगता सीता सुरसुतोपमा ।
न शर्म लेभे दुःखार्ता रावणेन च तर्जिता ।
।
॥५-२३-४॥
Sā rākṣasīmadhyagatā sītā surasutopamā । Na śarma lebhe duḥkhārtā rāvaṇena ca tarjitā । । ॥5-23-4॥
Translation
Surrounded by Rakshasis, threatened by Ravana, and afflicted with grief, Sita, resembling a divine daughter, found no peace.
हिंदी अनुवाद
राक्षसियों के बीच में घिरी हुई, रावण द्वारा धमकाई गई और दुःख से पीड़ित वह देवकन्या समान सीता, तनिक भी शांति नहीं पा सकीं।
English Commentary
The imagery of entrapment is vivid here. Being rākṣasī-madhya-gatā (situated in the middle of Rakshasis) implies physical encirclement and isolation. With Ravana's earlier threats hanging over her head and the guards closing in, she finds no śarma (respite/peace). It illustrates the psychological pressure cooker she is in—surrounded by enemies with no visible ally.

वाल्मीकि जी सीता की 'घेराबंदी' का चित्रण कर रहे हैं। 'राक्षसीमध्यगता' (राक्षसियों के बीच फँसी हुई) स्थिति अभिमन्यु के चक्रव्यूह जैसी है, जहाँ निकलने का कोई मार्ग नहीं है। रावण की धमकियाँ और राक्षसियों का व्यवहार उन्हें एक पल भी 'शर्म' (शांति/सुख) नहीं लेने दे रहा। यह मानसिक प्रताड़ना का चित्रण है, जहाँ शारीरिक कष्ट से अधिक, निरंतर भय और असुरक्षा व्यक्ति को तोड़ देती है।
