सा त्वशोकस्य विपुलां शाखामालम्ब्य पुष्पिताम् ।
चिन्तयामास शोकेन भर्तारं भग्नमानसा ।

Sā tvaśokasya vipulāṃ śākhāmālambya puṣpitām । Cintayāmāsa śokena bhartāraṃ bhagnamānasā । । ॥5-23-6॥
Translation
Holding onto a large, blossoming branch of the Ashoka tree, she thought of her husband with grief, her mind broken.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उन्होंने अशोक वृक्ष की एक विशाल पुष्पित शाखा का सहारा लिया और टूटे हुए मन (भग्नमानसा) से शोकपूर्वक अपने पति का चिंतन करने लगीं।
English Commentary
Seeking physical support, Sita grabs a branch of the Ashoka tree. The irony is poignant: she clings to the "sorrow-less" (Ashoka) tree while being bhagnamānasā (broken-minded/spirited). The blossoming branch contrasts with her withering hope. This gesture of holding the tree signifies her utter exhaustion; she physically cannot stand without support as she turns her mind inward to Rama.

जब कोई सहारा नहीं बचा, तो सीता ने प्रकृति का सहारा लिया। उन्होंने 'अशोक' वृक्ष की शाखा को पकड़ा। विडंबना यह है कि जिस वृक्ष का नाम 'अशोक' (शोक रहित) है, उसी के नीचे वे 'भग्नमानसा' (टूटे मन वाली) खड़ी हैं। पुष्पित शाखा जीवन और सुंदरता का प्रतीक है, जबकि सीता मृत्यु के भय में हैं। शाखा को पकड़ना यह भी दिखाता है कि वे इतनी दुर्बल हो चुकी हैं कि बिना सहारे के खड़ी भी नहीं हो सकतीं।
