सा स्नापयन्ती विपुलौ स्तनौ नेत्रजलस्रवैः ।
चिन्तयन्ती न शोकस्य तदान्तमधिगच्छति ।

Sā snāpayantī vipulau stanau netrajalasravaiḥ । Cintayantī na śokasya tadāntamadhigacchati । । ॥5-23-7॥
Translation
Bathing her breasts with the flow of tears from her eyes, and thinking deeply, she could not find the end of her sorrow at that time.
हिंदी अनुवाद
अपने नेत्रों से बहने वाले जल (आंसुओं) से अपने स्तनों को भिगोती हुई, और (राम का) चिंतन करती हुई, वे उस समय अपने शोक का अंत नहीं पा रही थीं।
English Commentary
The intensity of her grief is depicted by the tears that "bathe" (snāpayantī) her chest, implying a continuous stream rather than intermittent crying. The phrase na śokasya antam (no end to sorrow) highlights the depth of her despair. It is not just the fear of death, but the crushing weight of uncertainty and the seemingly infinite wait for rescue that overwhelms her.

सीता जी का रुदन इतना तीव्र है कि उनके आंसू बूंदों में नहीं, बल्कि 'स्रवैः' (धाराओं) में बह रहे हैं, जिससे उनके वस्त्र और शरीर भीग रहे हैं। 'न शोकस्य अन्तमधिगच्छति'—उन्हें अपने दुःख का कोई किनारा नहीं दिख रहा। यह अनिश्चितता ही सबसे बड़ी पीड़ा है। उन्हें यह नहीं पता कि राम आएंगे भी या नहीं, या उन्हें ये राक्षस अभी मार डालेंगे। यह आशा और निराशा के बीच का अंधकारमय क्षण है।
