प्रत्यक्षातं न जानाति नात्मानं नात्मनः कुलम् ।
यो नृशंस स्वभावेन मां प्रार्थयितुमिच्छति ।
।
॥५-२४-१०॥
Pratyākhyātaṃ na jānāti nātmānaṃ nātmanaḥ kulam |
Yo nṛśaṃsa svabhāvena māṃ prārthayitumicchati ॥5-24-10॥
Translation
That cruel-natured one does not understand that he is rejected, nor does he know himself or his own lineage, that he wishes to woo me.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वह क्रूर स्वभाव वाला (रावण) न तो मेरे द्वारा ठुकराए जाने को समझता है, न ही अपने आपको (अपनी औकात को) और न ही अपने कुल को जानता है, जो मुझसे (विवाह की) प्रार्थना करने की इच्छा रखता है।
English Commentary
Sita analyzes Ravana's delusion. She points out three blindnesses in him: he ignores her explicit rejection (pratyakhyatam), he doesn't know his own limitations (na atmanam), and he forgets the honor (or doom) of his lineage (kulam). She labels him nrishamsa (cruel/wicked). By trying to woo the wife of Rama, he displays a suicidal ignorance of the cosmic order. Sita implies that his persistence is not love, but a fatal flaw of character that blinds him to reality and propriety.
हिंदी टीका
सीता जी रावण की मूर्खता और अहंकार पर प्रहार करती हैं। बार-बार मना करने ('प्रत्याख्यातं') के बाद भी रावण का आग्रह करना उसकी निर्लज्जता है। सीता जी कहती हैं कि वह 'आत्मानं न जानाति'—यानी वह नहीं जानता कि वह किसके सामने खड़ा है (राम की पत्नी) और उसका विनाश निश्चित है। वह 'नृशंस' (क्रूर) है। सीता जी का यह कथन बताता है कि रावण का यह प्रयास न केवल अनैतिक है बल्कि उसके कुल के विनाश का कारण भी बनेगा, जिससे वह अनभिज्ञ है।
