चरणेनापि सव्येन न स्पृशेयं निशाचरम् ।
रावणं किं पुनरहं कामयेयं विगर्हितम् ।
।

Caraṇenāpi savyena na spṛśeyaṃ niśācaram |
Rāvaṇe kiṃ punarahaṃ kāmayeyaṃ vigarhitam ॥5-24-9॥
Translation
I would not touch that night-wanderer Ravana even with my left foot. How then could I ever desire that despicable one?
हिंदी अनुवाद
जिस निंदनीय निशाचर रावण को मैं अपने बाएँ पैर से भी नहीं छू सकती, उस रावण की कामना मैं कैसे कर सकती हूँ?
English Commentary
This is one of the most powerful insults in the Ramayana. Sita expresses absolute disdain for Ravana. In Indian culture, the foot, specifically the left foot (savyena charanena), is considered the lowest and most impure part of the body. By stating she wouldn't even touch Ravana with her left foot, she places him beneath the dust she walks on. This hyperbolic rejection counters the Rakshasis' suggestion to accept Ravana's love. She questions how she could ever desire someone so vigarhitam (despicable/blameworthy).

यह श्लोक सीता जी के सतीत्व और रावण के प्रति उनकी घृणा का वज्र-घोष है। भारतीय संस्कृति में 'बायाँ पैर' सबसे अपवित्र माना जाता है और किसी को पैर से छूना घोर अपमान है। सीता जी कहती हैं कि प्रेम करना तो दूर, वह रावण को लात मारने योग्य (स्पर्श करने योग्य) भी नहीं समझतीं। 'विगर्हितम्' (निंदित/घृणित) शब्द रावण के चरित्र के लिए प्रयोग किया गया है। यह पंक्ति राक्षसियों के उस प्रस्ताव का तीखा खंडन है जिसमें वे सीता को रावण की रानी बनने के लिए कह रही थीं।
