किं नु तत्कारणं येन रामो दृढपराक्रमः ।
रक्षसापहृतां भार्यामिष्टां नाभ्यवपद्यते ।

Kiṃ nu tatkāraṇaṃ yena rāmo dṛḍhaparākramaḥ |
Rakṣasāpahṛtāṃ bhāryāmiṣṭāṃ nābhyavapadyate ॥5-24-17॥
Translation
What could be the reason that Rama, of firm valor, does not come to rescue his beloved wife stolen by a demon?

आख़िर वह क्या कारण हो सकता है, जिससे दृढ़ पराक्रमी राम, राक्षस द्वारा हरी गई अपनी प्यारी पत्नी को (बचाने के लिए) नहीं आ रहे हैं?
English Commentary
Sita is baffled. She analyzes the situation: Rama has the power (dridhaparakrama - firm valor) and the motivation (she is his ishtam bharyam - beloved wife). When both ability and motive exist, inaction is inexplicable. This verse captures the agony of the unknown. Unlike the reader, who knows Rama is searching for her, Sita is in the dark. This isolation and lack of information are the cruelest parts of her captivity.

जब शक्ति और सामर्थ्य में कोई कमी नहीं है, तो विलंब का कारण क्या है? सीता जी 'दृढपराक्रमः' विशेषण का प्रयोग करती हैं, जिसका अर्थ है कि राम का पराक्रम कभी विचलित नहीं होता। वह स्वयं को 'इष्टां भार्यां' (प्रिय पत्नी) कहती हैं, यह याद दिलाने के लिए कि प्रेम में भी कोई कमी नहीं थी। अतः, न तो शक्ति की कमी है, न प्रेम की। यह प्रश्न 'किं नु तत्कारणं' (वह क्या कारण है) उनके मन को मथ रहा है। यह अनिश्चितता ही उनके दुख का सबसे बड़ा कारण है।
