Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
इहस्थां मां न जानीते शङ्के लक्ष्मणपूर्वजः ।
जानन्नपि हि तेजस्वी धर्षणां मर्षयिष्यति ।
।
॥५-२४-१८॥
Ihasthāṃ māṃ na jānīte śaṅke lakṣmaṇapūrvajaḥ |
Jānannapi hi tejasvī dharṣaṇāṃ marṣayiṣyati ॥5-24-18॥
Translation
I suspect that the elder brother of Lakshmana does not know that I am here. For, knowing it, that glorious one would indeed not tolerate this outrage. (Note: The negative sense is implied in the second line rhetorically or carried over contextually, as standard commentaries interpret 'Na Marshayishyati' - he would not tolerate).

मुझे शंका है कि लक्ष्मण के बड़े भाई (राम) यह नहीं जानते कि मैं यहाँ हूँ। क्योंकि यह जानकर (कि मैं यहाँ हूँ), वह तेजस्वी (राम) इस अपमान को (कभी) सहन नहीं करेंगे।
English Commentary
Sita deduces the only logical explanation for Rama's absence: ignorance of her location. She refers to him as Lakshmanapurvaja (elder brother of Lakshmana) and Tejasvi (radiant/glorious). She concludes, "I suspect he does not know." The logic follows that if he did know, his honor and radiant nature would never allow him to tolerate (marshayishyati) such a violation (dharshanam). This realization shifts her despair from "He has abandoned me" to "He cannot find me," which restores her faith in his love and duty.

अंततः सीता जी सही निष्कर्ष पर पहुँचती हैं। वह समझ जाती हैं कि राम के न आने का एकमात्र कारण 'अज्ञान' (जानकारी न होना) ही हो सकता है। वह कहती हैं कि राम 'तेजस्वी' हैं, और कोई भी तेजस्वी पुरुष अपनी पत्नी का अपमान ('धर्षण') सहन नहीं कर सकता। यदि राम को पता होता कि सीता लंका में हैं, तो वे अब तक लंका को भस्म कर चुके होते। यह श्लोक उनके मन को थोड़ी शांति देता है कि राम ने उन्हें त्यागा नहीं है, बस वे उन्हें ढूँढ नहीं पा रहे हैं।
