कृतं कर्म महत्तेन मां तदाभ्यवपद्यता ।
तिष्ठता रावणद्वन्द्वे वृद्धेनापि जटायुषा ।
।

Kṛtaṃ karma mahattena māṃ tadābhyavapadyatā |
Tiṣṭhatā rāvaṇadvandve vṛddhenāpi jaṭāyuṣā ॥5-24-20॥
Translation
Even though he was old, Jatayu performed a great deed by trying to rescue me and standing firm in a duel against Ravana.

उस समय मेरी रक्षा के लिए रावण से द्वंद्व युद्ध करते हुए, वृद्ध होने पर भी जटायु ने महान कर्म किया था।
English Commentary
Sita pays tribute to Jatayu’s martyrdom. She acknowledges his handicap—he was old (vriddhena)—yet he stood his ground in a duel (dvandve) against the mighty Ravana. She terms his action as mahat karma (a great deed). This shows Sita’s gracious nature; even in her darkest hour, she takes a moment to honor the memory of the one soul who tried to protect her. It emphasizes the moral victory of Jatayu over the physical might of Ravana.

स्वयं घोर संकट में होते हुए भी सीता जी जटायु के उपकार और वीरता को नहीं भूलतीं। वह जटायु को 'वृद्ध' कहती हैं, जिससे उनके बलिदान का महत्व और बढ़ जाता है। एक बूढ़े पक्षी ने युवा और शक्तिशाली राक्षस रावण को 'द्वंद्व' (युद्ध) की चुनौती दी थी। सीता जी इसे 'महत् कर्म' (महान कार्य) मानती हैं। यह सीता जी की कृतज्ञता ('gratefulness') को दर्शाता है। वह अपने दुख में भी दूसरों के त्याग का सम्मान करना जानती हैं।
