न हि ताभ्यां रिपुर्दृष्टो मुहूतमपि जीवति ।
चिता धूमाकुलपथा गृध्रमण्डलसङ्कुला ।
अचिरेण तु लङ्केयं श्मशानसदृशी भवेत् ।

Na hi tābhyāṃ ripurdṛṣṭo muhūtamapi jīvati |
Citā dhūmākulapathā gṛdhramaṇḍalasaṅkulā |
Acireṇa tu laṅkeyaṃ śmaśānasadṛśī bhavet ॥5-24-24॥
Translation
For no enemy seen by them survives even for a moment. Soon, this Lanka will become like a cremation ground, with paths choked by funeral smoke and crowded with flocks of vultures.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उन दोनों (राम-लक्ष्मण) की दृष्टि में आया हुआ शत्रु एक मुहूर्त भी जीवित नहीं बचता। शीघ्र ही यह लंका श्मशान के समान हो जाएगी, जिसके रास्ते चिताओं के धुएं से भर जाएंगे और जहाँ गिद्धों के झुंड मंडराएंगे।
English Commentary
The imagery here is apocalyptic. Sita asserts the lethality of Rama and Lakshmana—once an enemy is "seen" by them, they are as good as dead. She describes the future Lanka as shmashana-sadrishi (resembling a graveyard/cremation ground). The visual details are chilling: streets filled with smoke from funeral pyres (chita dhuma) and skies dark with vultures (gridhra mandala). This transformation from a golden city to a city of death reflects the inevitable consequence of Ravana's unrighteousness.

सीता जी लंका के विनाश का भयानक चित्र खींचती हैं। राम और लक्ष्मण की दृष्टि पड़ते ही शत्रु का काल निश्चित है। सीता जी लंका को एक सुंदर नगरी के रूप में नहीं, बल्कि भावी 'श्मशान' के रूप में देख रही हैं। 'चिता धूमाकुलपथा' (रास्ते चिताओं के धुएं से भरे हुए) और 'गृध्रमण्डलसङ्कुला' (गिद्धों के झुंड)—ये शब्द युद्ध की विभीषिका का वर्णन करते हैं। यह सीता जी का 'शाप' भी है और राम के शौर्य की 'भविष्यवाणी' भी। सुंदरी लंका जल्द ही मृत्यु की नगरी बनेगी।
