Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
नाजानाज्जीवतीं रामः स मां लक्ष्मणपूर्वजः ।
जानन्तौ तौ न कुर्यातां नोर्व्यां हि मम मार्गणम् ।
।
॥५-२४-३७॥
Nājānājjīvatīm rāmaḥ sa māṃ lakṣmaṇapūrvajaḥ |
Jānantau tau na kuryātāṃ norvyāṃ hi mama mārgaṇam ॥5-24-37॥
Translation
Perhaps Rama, the elder brother of Lakshmana, does not know that I am alive. If those two knew, they would not have failed to search the entire earth for me.

लक्ष्मण के बड़े भाई वे श्रीराम शायद यह नहीं जानते कि मैं जीवित हूँ। यदि वे (राम और लक्ष्मण) जानते होते, तो ऐसा नहीं हो सकता था कि वे पूरी पृथ्वी पर मेरी खोज न करते।
English Commentary
Sita attempts to rationalize the delay in her rescue without doubting Rama's capability or love. She concludes that it must be an information gap: Rama simply doesn't know she survived the abduction. The use of the epithet Lakṣmaṇapūrvajaḥ (elder brother of Lakshmana) invokes the image of the invincible duo. She is certain that if they possessed the intelligence of her survival, no corner of the earth (urvyāṃ) would remain unsearched. This hypothesis is the most hopeful one for her, as it implies that once they know, rescue is inevitable.

सीता जी अपने मन को सांत्वना देने के लिए तर्क (logic) ढूंढ रही हैं। उन्हें श्रीराम के प्रेम और पराक्रम पर पूरा भरोसा है, इसलिए वे सोचती हैं कि उनके न आने का कारण केवल अज्ञान (ignorance of facts) हो सकता है। वे मानती हैं कि अगर श्रीराम को पता होता कि सीता जीवित हैं, तो वे पाताल या आकाश कहीं से भी उन्हें ढूँढ निकालते। "लक्ष्मणपूर्वजः" (लक्ष्मण के अग्रज) संबोधन यह याद दिलाता है कि दोनों भाई एक साथ हैं और दोनों मिलकर खोज रहे होंगे। यह श्लोक सीता जी की उस आशा को दर्शाता है कि संचार (communication) की कमी ही उनके कष्ट का कारण है, न कि प्रेम की कमी।
