नूनं ममैव शोकेन स वीरो लक्ष्मणाग्रजः ।
देवलोकमितो यातस्त्यक्त्वा देहं महीतले ।
।
॥५-२४-३८॥
Nūnaṃ mamaiva śokena sa vīro lakṣmaṇāgrajaḥ |
Devalokamito yātastyaktvā dehaṃ mahītale ॥5-24-38॥
Translation
Surely, that hero (Rama), the elder brother of Lakshmana, has left his body on this earth and gone to the celestial world (Devaloka) due to grief for me alone.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(फिर मन में शंका होती है) निश्चय ही वे वीर (श्रीराम) मेरे ही शोक के कारण इस पृथ्वी पर अपना शरीर त्यागकर देवलोक को चले गए होंगे।
English Commentary
Sita’s mind oscillates from hope to catastrophic thinking. She fears that the sensitivity and depth of Rama's love might have been his undoing. Knowing how much he loved her, she speculates that the grief of separation might have caused him to give up his life and ascend to heaven (devaloka). This reflects the burden of guilt she carries—thinking that she is the cause of his suffering. It is a moment of intense vulnerability where she imagines the worst possible outcome: a world where Rama no longer exists.

आशा के बाद सीता जी के मन में घोर निराशा (Despair) का विचार आता है। वे श्रीराम के कोमल हृदय को जानती हैं। उन्हें डर है कि उनके वियोग का दुःख श्रीराम सहन नहीं कर पाए होंगे। "ममैव शोकेन" (मेरे ही शोक से) कहकर वे स्वयं को दोषी मानती हैं। यह प्रेम की वह पराकाष्ठा है जहाँ प्रेमी को अपनी चिंता नहीं, बल्कि इस बात का भय है कि कहीं उनके कारण प्रियतमा का अनिष्ट न हो गया हो। यदि श्रीराम ही नहीं रहे, तो सीता के लिए यह संसार शून्य है। यह श्लोक उनके मानसिक द्वंद्व और भय को उजागर करता है।
