अथ वा न हि तस्यार्थे धर्मकामस्य धीमतः ।
मया रामस्य राजर्षेर्भार्यया परमात्मनः ।
।
॥५-२४-४०॥
Atha vā na hi tasyārthe dharmakāmasya dhīmataḥ |
Mayā rāmasya rājarṣerbhāryayā paramātmanaḥ ॥5-24-40॥
Translation
Or perhaps, for that wise Royal Sage (Rajarshi) Rama, who desires Dharma and is a great soul, there is no longer any need for me as a wife?

अथवा, ऐसा भी हो सकता है कि उन धर्मप्रेमी, बुद्धिमान, राजर्षि और महात्मा श्रीराम को मुझ जैसी पत्नी की अब कोई आवश्यकता (प्रयोजन) न रही हो?
English Commentary
Sita considers another painful possibility: abandonment. She wonders if Rama, being a Rajarshi (royal sage) focused on Dharma and higher wisdom (dhīmataḥ), has decided that a wife is an impediment to his spiritual or ascetic goals. She questions if she has become irrelevant to his purpose. This reflects the psychological toll of her captivity, where the silence from Rama is interpreted as rejection. She fears that perhaps his commitment to righteousness has superseded his attachment to her.

अब सीता जी के मन में एक और शंका जन्म लेती है—उपेक्षा का भय। वे सोचती हैं कि श्रीराम "धर्मकाम" (धर्म की कामना करने वाले) और "धीमतः" (बुद्धिमान) हैं। कहीं उन्होंने यह तो नहीं सोच लिया कि सीता के कारण उनके धर्म और तपस्या में बाधा आ रही है? क्या उन्होंने मुझे त्याग दिया है? यह एक पत्नी का भय है जो सोचती है कि वनवास के कठिन जीवन में शायद वह एक बोझ बन गई थीं। यहाँ "परमात्मनः" का अर्थ महान आत्मा या मन वाले श्रीराम से है। यह श्लोक सीता जी की असुरक्षा (insecurity) को दर्शाता है जो अत्यंत कष्ट के समय मन में घर कर जाती है।
