न हि मे जीवितेनार्थो नैवार्थैर्न च भूषणैः ।
वसन्त्या राक्षसी मध्ये विना रामं महारथम् ।
।
॥५-२४-५॥
Na hi me jīvitenārtho naivārthairna ca bhūṣaṇaiḥ |
Vasantyā rākṣasī madhye vinā rāmaṃ mahāratham ॥5-24-5॥
Translation
Living amidst these Rakshasis without Rama, the great warrior, I have no use for life, nor for wealth, nor for ornaments.
हिंदी अनुवाद
महारथी राम के बिना इन राक्षसियों के बीच में रहते हुए, न तो मुझे जीवन से कोई प्रयोजन (मतलब) है, न धन-संपत्ति से और न ही आभूषणों से।
English Commentary
Sita rejects all material comforts and even the value of existence itself in the absence of Rama. By calling Rama maharatham (great warrior), she acknowledges his prowess, which makes his absence even more painful—she knows he could save her. She declares that wealth (arthaih) and ornaments (bhushanaih) are meaningless to her now. This emphasizes that her identity and happiness are intrinsically linked to Rama’s presence, not her status as a queen. Living among demons has stripped away all superficial desires, leaving only the core longing for her husband.

सीता जी वैराग्य की स्थिति में हैं। एक स्त्री के लिए, विशेषकर एक रानी के लिए, आभूषण और ऐश्वर्य का महत्व होता है, किन्तु राम के बिना ये सब व्यर्थ हैं। वह राम को 'महारथम्' कहती हैं, जो उनकी शक्ति और वीरत्व का स्मरण है। राक्षसियों के बीच रहना नरक समान है। वह स्पष्ट करती हैं कि उनका जीवन राम से जुड़ा है; राम के बिना जीवन का कोई 'अर्थ' (उद्देश्य) नहीं है। यह पतिव्रता धर्म की पराकाष्ठा है जहाँ पति के बिना संसार की समस्त सुख-सुविधाएँ तुच्छ हैं।
