धिङ्मामनार्यामसतीं याहं तेन विना कृता ।
मुहूर्तमपि रक्षामि जीवितं पापजीविता ।

Dhiṅmāmanāryāmasatīṃ yāhaṃ tena vinā kṛtā |
Muhūrtamapi rakṣāmi jīvitaṃ pāpajīvitā ॥5-24-6॥
Translation
Fie upon me, unnoble and unchaste, that separated from him, I preserve this sinful life even for a moment.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मुझ अनार्या और असती को धिक्कार है, जो मैं उन (राम) से अलग होकर भी, पापपूर्ण जीवन जीती हुई, एक मुहूर्त के लिए भी अपने प्राणों की रक्षा कर रही हूँ।
English Commentary
Sita engages in harsh self-condemnation, driven by survivor's guilt. She labels herself anaryam (ignoble) and asatim (unchaste/not a true wife), not because she has committed any sin, but because she is still alive while separated from Rama. In her strict code of devotion, a true wife should not be able to physically survive such separation. She views her continued survival as a "sinful life" (papajivita). This hyper-critical view of herself showcases the impossible standards she sets for her own devotion, feeling guilty for the involuntary act of breathing.

यह श्लोक सीता जी की आत्म-ग्लानि (guilt) को दर्शाता है। वह स्वयं को 'अनार्या' (श्रेष्ठ आचरण से रहित) और 'असती' कह रही हैं। लोक दृष्टि में सीता परम सती हैं, लेकिन उनकी अपनी दृष्टि में, पति के वियोग में जीवित रहना ही सतीत्व में कमी है। वह मानती हैं कि राम के बिना श्वास लेना भी पाप है ('पापजीविता')। यह प्रेम की वह अवस्था है जहाँ प्रेमी को लगता है कि प्रिय के बिना जीवित रहना ही अपराध है। वह अपने ही अस्तित्व को धिक्कार रही हैं क्योंकि वह मृत्यु को प्राप्त नहीं हो पा रही हैं।
