Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
भिद्यतां भक्ष्यतां वापि शरीरं विसृजाम्यहम् ।
न चाप्यहं चिरं दुःखं सहेयं प्रियवर्जिता ।
।

Bhidyatāṃ bhakṣyatāṃ vāpi śarīraṃ visṛjāmyaham |
Na cāpyahaṃ ciraṃ duḥkhaṃ saheyaṃ priyavarjitā ॥5-24-8॥
Translation
Let this body be cut into pieces or let it be eaten; I surrender it. Separated from my beloved, I will not endure this sorrow for long.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(मेरे इस) शरीर को काट डाला जाए या खा लिया जाए, मैं इसे त्यागती हूँ। मैं अपने प्रिय (राम) से अलग होकर अब अधिक समय तक दुख नहीं सहूँगी।
English Commentary
Displaying ultimate defiance, Sita tells the Rakshasis to do their worst. Responding to their threats of cannibalism, she says, "Let it be split (bhidyatam) or eaten (bhakshyatam)." She relinquishes attachment to her physical form (shariram visrujamyaham). This indicates that her spirit has transcended fear. Her reasoning is that the emotional pain of being priyavarjita (bereft of her beloved) is far worse than any physical torture the demons can inflict. She prefers immediate death over the prolonged torture of separation.

यहाँ सीता जी अपना अंतिम निर्णय सुना रही हैं। राक्षसियों की धमकियों (काटने और खाने की) का उत्तर देते हुए वह कहती हैं कि उन्हें अब देह का मोह नहीं है। 'भिद्यतां' (काट दो) और 'भक्ष्यतां' (खा लो)—ये शब्द उनके निर्भयत्व और हताशा दोनों को दिखाते हैं। जब मृत्यु का भय समाप्त हो जाता है, तब अत्याचारी का बल भी निष्फल हो जाता है। वह स्पष्ट करती हैं कि राम से वियोग ('प्रियवर्जिता') का दुख शारीरिक मृत्यु के दुख से कहीं बड़ा है, इसलिए वह अब और सहन नहीं करेंगी।
