भर्तारं तमपश्यन्ती राक्षसीवशमागता ।
सीदामि खलु शोकेन कूलं तोयहतं यथा ।

bhartāraṃ tamapaśyantī rākṣasīvaśamāgatā |
sīdāmi khalu śokena kūlaṃ toyahataṃ yathā ॥5-25-15॥
Translation
Not seeing my husband and having fallen under the control of demonesses, I am indeed wasting away with grief, like a riverbank eroded by the current.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उन अपने पति (श्री राम) को न देख पाने के कारण और राक्षसियों के वश में पड़ी होने से, मैं शोक से उसी प्रकार कटती (क्षीण होती) जा रही हूँ, जैसे पानी के वेग से नदी का किनारा।
English Commentary
The imagery shifts from a stormy ocean to a riverbank (kūlam) being eroded by water (toyahata). This metaphor describes a gradual, relentless decay rather than a sudden destruction. Sita feels her vitality and hope being washed away bit by bit by the constant flow of shoka (grief). The inability to see her husband (bhartāraṃ tamapaśyantī) is the erosive force. It conveys a sense of inevitability; just as a riverbank eventually collapses into the water, she feels she is on the verge of collapsing into total despair.

यहाँ 'सीदामि' (नष्ट हो रही हूँ/धंस रही हूँ) क्रिया का प्रयोग सीता (सीता का नाम भी हल रेखा से संबंधित है) की स्थिति के लिए ध्वन्यात्मक सौंदर्य रखता है। नदी के किनारे (कूल) की उपमा यह बताती है कि जैसे पानी का तेज बहाव धीरे-धीरे मिट्टी को काटता है और किनारा ढह जाता है, वैसे ही निरंतर शोक उनके जीवन को काट रहा है। यह एक धीमी और दर्दनाक मृत्यु की प्रक्रिया है। राक्षसियों का वश और पति का अदृश्य होना—ये दो धाराएँ हैं जो उनके अस्तित्व की नींव को खोखला कर रही हैं।
