सर्वथा तेन हीनाया रामेण विदितात्मना ।
तीक्ष्णं विषमिवास्वाद्य दुर्लभं मम जीवितम् ।

sarvathā tena hīnāyā rāmeṇa viditātmanā |
tīkṣṇaṃ viṣamivāsvādya durlabhaṃ mama jīvitam ॥5-25-17॥
Translation
Separated entirely from that Rama, the knower of the Self, my life has become as difficult to sustain as it is for one who has swallowed potent poison.

उस आत्मज्ञानी राम से सर्वथा वियुक्त हुई मेरे लिए जीवन धारण करना उतना ही कठिन है, जितना तीक्ष्ण विष पीकर जीवित रहना।
English Commentary
Sita compares her separation (hīnāyā) from Rama to swallowing sharp/potent poison (tīkṣṇaṃ viṣam). The phrase durlabhaṃ mama jīvitam can be interpreted in two ways: either "my life is hard to sustain" or "it is rare/miraculous that I am still alive." Given the poison analogy, she implies that surviving this separation is unnatural. It emphasizes that Rama is her very life-force; without him, existence is toxic. The recurrence of viditātmanā suggests she looks to his wisdom for a reason behind this senseless suffering.

सीता जी के लिए राम से वियोग केवल भावनात्मक दूरी नहीं, बल्कि प्राणघातक है। उन्होंने वियोग की तुलना 'तीक्ष्ण विष' (हलाहल जैसा ज़हर) से की है। साधारणतः विष पीने पर मृत्यु निश्चित होती है, परन्तु सीता जी वियोग रूपी विष पीकर भी जीवित हैं—यही उनके लिए 'दुर्लभ' (कठिन/आश्चर्यजनक) है। यहाँ 'विदितात्मना' विशेषण पुन: प्रयोग हुआ है, जो यह संकेत करता है कि राम तो ज्ञानी हैं, वे सब जानते हैं, फिर भी यह वियोग क्यों? यह विरोधाभास उनकी पीड़ा को और गहरा करता है।
