सा स्नापयन्ती विपुलौ स्तनौ नेत्रजलस्रवैः ।
चिन्तयन्ती न शोकस्य तदा ऽन्तमधिगच्छति ।

sā snāpayantī vipulau stanau netrajalasravaiḥ |
cintayantī na śokasya tadāntamadhigacchati ॥5-25-7॥
Translation
Bathing her breasts with torrents of tears from her eyes, deeply thoughtful, she could not find an end to her sorrow at that time.

नेत्रों से बहने वाली अश्रुधारा से अपने स्तनों को भिगोती हुई, वह चिन्तामग्न सीता उस समय अपने शोक का कोई अंत नहीं पा रही थीं।
English Commentary
The imagery of tears bathing her breasts signifies the profusion of her grief; it is not a silent tear but a deluge. The phrase na śokasya tadāntamadhigacchati (did not find the end of her sorrow) indicates a state of hopelessness. She is in a cognitive loop of despair, thinking and rethinking her situation but finding no exit strategy or relief. This emphasizes the absolute necessity of an external intervention (which arrives shortly in the form of Hanuman) to save her life.

यह श्लोक सीता जी के अविरल रुदन का वर्णन करता है। आंसुओं की मात्रा इतनी अधिक है कि वे उनके वक्षस्थल को स्नान करा रहे हैं। 'न अन्तमधिगच्छति' (अंत नहीं पा रही थीं) वाक्यांश सबसे महत्वपूर्ण है। यह उस अंधकारमय क्षण को दर्शाता है जब आशा की कोई किरण नहीं दिखती। हनुमान जी के प्रकट होने से ठीक पहले की यह स्थिति है, जहाँ दुःखांत नाटक जैसा वातावरण बन गया है। वे सोच रही हैं, विचार कर रही हैं, किन्तु निष्र्ष केवल निराशा ही है।
