विराधो दण्डकारण्ये येन राक्षसपुङ्गवः ।
रणे रामेण निहतः स मां किं नाभिपद्यते ।

Virādho daṇḍakāraṇye yena rākṣasapuṅgavaḥ । Raṇe rāmeṇa nihataḥ sa māṃ kiṃ nābhipadyate । । ॥5-26-16॥
Translation
Why does that Rama, by whom the mighty demon Viradha was killed in battle in the Dandakaranya forest, not come to reach me here?
हिंदी अनुवाद
जिन्होंने दंडकारण्य वन में राक्षस श्रेष्ठ विराध का युद्ध में वध किया था, वे श्री राम मुझे (मुक्त कराने के लिए) यहाँ क्यों नहीं पधार रहे हैं?
English Commentary
In this verse, Sita recalls Rama's past valor to validate her confusion regarding his absence. She references the slaying of Viradha, a powerful demon encountered early in their exile in the Dandakaranya forest. By citing this specific victory, Sita establishes that Rama’s capability is not in question; he has defeated massive threats before. Her question is existential and filled with longing: "If he could kill Viradha, surely he can defeat my captor. So, why isn't he here?" This highlights the psychological torment of her captivity—she knows her husband is a warrior capable of rescuing her, which makes the delay even more agonizing to endure.

इस श्लोक में माता सीता अपने पति के पराक्रम का स्मरण करती हैं। वे जानती हैं कि श्री राम का बाहुबल असीम है। दंडकारण्य में जब वे वनवास के लिए आए थे, तो विराध जैसा भयानक राक्षस उनके मार्ग में बाधा बना था, किंतु श्री राम ने अनायास ही उसका वध कर दिया था। सीता जी तर्क करती हैं कि यदि राम विराध जैसे राक्षस को मार सकते हैं, तो रावण उनके लिए कोई बाधा नहीं है। यहाँ उनके मन में संदेह राम की क्षमता पर नहीं, बल्कि विलंब के कारण पर है। यह विरह की वह अवस्था है जहाँ प्रेमी अपने प्रियतम की शक्ति को जानता है, फिर भी उनकी अनुपस्थिति से व्याकुल होकर प्रश्न करता है कि क्या कोई विशेष कारण है जिसने उन्हें रोक रखा है।
