इहस्थां मां न जानीते शङ्के लक्ष्मणपूर्वजः ।
जानन्नपि हि तेजस्वी धर्षणं मर्षयिष्यति ।
।
॥५-२६-१९॥
Ihasthāṃ māṃ na jānīte śaṅke lakṣmaṇapūrvajaḥ । Jānannapi hi tejasvī dharṣaṇaṃ marṣayiṣyati । । ॥5-26-19॥
Translation
I suspect that the elder brother of Lakshmana does not know that I am here. For, that glorious one, even after knowing, would indeed not tolerate this outrage.

मुझे शंका है कि लक्ष्मण के बड़े भाई (श्री राम) यह नहीं जानते कि मैं यहाँ हूँ। क्योंकि यह संभव ही नहीं है कि वे तेजस्वी राम यह जानकर भी (कि मैं यहाँ हूँ) इस अपमान को सहन कर लें।
English Commentary
Here, Sita deduces the most logical explanation for the silence: an intelligence gap. She refers to Rama as Lakṣmaṇapūrvajaḥ (Lakshmana's elder brother) and Tejasvī (the radiant/resplendent one). She concludes that he simply does not know her location. This realization is crucial for her morale. It vindicates Rama’s love and honor—he isn't ignoring her suffering; he is unaware of it. She asserts that a warrior of his caliber would never tolerate such dharṣaṇaṃ (violation/insult) if he were aware of it. This marks a shift from despair to a desperate hope that a messenger might somehow bridge this gap of information.

अंततः सीता जी सही निष्कर्ष पर पहुँचती हैं। वे समझ जाती हैं कि राम के न आने का एकमात्र कारण 'सूचना का अभाव' है। वे कहती हैं कि यह संभव ही नहीं है कि राम को पता हो कि उनकी सीता लंका में है और वे शांत बैठें। 'तेजस्वी' शब्द का प्रयोग राम के क्षत्रिय स्वभाव और पौरुष को दर्शाता है—तेज वह अग्नि है जो अपमान को भस्म कर देती है। सीता जी का यह विचार उन्हें मानसिक शांति देता है क्योंकि इसका अर्थ यह है कि राम ने उन्हें त्यागा नहीं है, न ही वे असमर्थ हैं; वे केवल अजान हैं। यह श्लोक उनके अटूट विश्वास को पुष्ट करता है कि जैसे ही राम को पता चलेगा, वे तुरंत कार्यवाही करेंगे।
