कृतं कर्म महत्तेन मां तथा ऽभ्यवपद्यता ।
तिष्ठता रावणद्वन्द्वे वृद्धेनापि जटायुषा ।
।
॥५-२६-२१॥
Kṛtaṃ karma mahattena māṃ tathā 'bhyavapadyatā । Tiṣṭhatā rāvaṇadvandve vṛddhenāpi jaṭāyuṣā । । ॥5-26-21॥
Translation
A great deed was done by that Jatayu, who, though old, engaged in a duel with Ravana, coming to my rescue in that manner.

उस वृद्ध जटायु ने मेरी सहायता के लिए दौड़कर और रावण के साथ द्वंद्व युद्ध में डटकर महान कर्म किया है।
English Commentary
Even in her despondency, Sita takes a moment to pay tribute to Jatayu. She acknowledges his sacrifice as a mahat karma (great deed). She highlights his age (vṛddhenāpi - even though old) to contrast it with the ferocity of the combat against Ravana. This demonstrates Sita’s noble character; she does not dwell solely on her misfortune but remembers the valor of those who tried to help her. It validates the concept that the greatness of an action lies in the intent and the effort, not just the outcome. Jatayu fought against impossible odds, and Sita honors that martyrdom.

अपनी पीड़ा के बीच भी, सीता जी कृतज्ञता (Gratitude) व्यक्त करना नहीं भूलतीं। वे जटायु के बलिदान को 'महत् कर्म' (महान कार्य) कहती हैं। वे विशेष रूप से उल्लेख करती हैं कि जटायु 'वृद्ध' थे, फिर भी उन्होंने रावण जैसे युवा और शक्तिशाली राक्षस से 'द्वंद्व' (सीधा मुकाबला) किया। यह सीता के चरित्र की उदारता है कि अपनी घोर विपत्ति में भी वे उस पक्षीराज के शौर्य और त्याग को नमन कर रही हैं। यह श्लोक धर्म के लिए प्राण देने वालों के प्रति सम्मान का प्रतीक है। जटayu का प्रयास विफल भले ही रहा हो, पर सीता की दृष्टि में उनका कर्म सफल और महान था।
