चिताधूमाकुलपथा गृध्रमण्डलसङ्कुला ।
अचिरेण तु लङ्केयं श्मशानसदृशी भवेत् ।

Citādhūmākulapathā gṛdhramaṇḍalasaṅkulā । Acireṇa tu laṅkeyaṃ śmaśānasadṛśī bhavet । । ॥5-26-26॥
Translation
Before long, this Lanka will become like a cremation ground, its paths filled with smoke from funeral pyres and crowded with flocks of vultures.

शीघ्र ही यह लंका श्मशान के समान हो जाएगी, जिसके मार्ग चिताओं के धुएं से व्याप्त होंगे और जो गिद्धों के समूहों से भरी होगी।
English Commentary
Sita paints a vivid, macabre picture of the post-war landscape. She transforms the image of the "Golden City" into a śmaśānasadṛśī (resembling a graveyard/cremation ground). The imagery is sensory and dark: paths choked with the smoke of burning bodies and the sky darkened by circling vultures (gṛdhramaṇḍala). This stark contrast to the current opulence of Lanka serves as a warning of the total devastation that is imminent. It reflects Sita’s clarity that the rescue will not be a diplomatic handover, but a bloody conquest that will leave the city in ruins.

यहाँ लंका के भविष्य का एक भयावह और वीभत्स चित्र खींचा गया है। जो लंका अभी स्वर्णमयी और सुंदर है, वह शीघ्र ही 'श्मशान' बन जाएगी। सीता जी 'चिताधूम' (चिताओं का धुआँ) और 'गृध्रमण्डल' (गिद्धों का झुंड) जैसे शब्दों का प्रयोग कर युद्ध के बाद की विभीषिका का वर्णन करती हैं। यह रावण के पापों का अंतिम परिणाम है—सुंदरता का कुरूपता में और जीवन का मृत्यु में परिवर्तन। यह केवल श्राप नहीं है, बल्कि एक तार्किक भविष्यवाणी है जो राम के क्रोध के परिणाम को दर्शाती है।
