यादृशानीह दृश्यन्ते लङ्कायामशुभानि वै ।
अचिरेण तु कालेन भविष्यति हतप्रभा ।
।
॥५-२६-२८॥
Yādṛśānīha dṛśyante laṅkāyāmaśubhāni vai |
Acireṇa tu kālena bhaviṣyati hataprabhā ॥5-26-28॥
Translation
Considering the inauspicious omens that are being seen here in Lanka, this city will surely lose its luster and glory in a very short time.
हिंदी अनुवाद
यहाँ लंका में जैसे अशुभ लक्षण (शकुन) दिखाई दे रहे हैं, उससे निश्चय ही थोड़े समय में यह नगरी प्रभाहीन (तेज-रहित) हो जाएगी।
English Commentary
In this verse, Sita assumes a prophetic tone. Despite being confined within the Ashoka Vatika, isolated from the political workings of the city, she is attuned to the cosmic and environmental vibrations. She speaks of ashubhani (inauspicious omens), suggesting that the very atmosphere of Lanka is heavy with impending doom. In the epic tradition, the fall of a kingdom is often preceded by celestial and terrestrial signs. Sita’s declaration that Lanka will become hataprabha (bereft of luster) signifies that the physical wealth and gold of the city are meaningless without the foundation of Dharma. The spiritual light of the city is fading due to Ravana’s sins, and physical destruction is the inevitable next step. It shows her unshakeable faith that righteousness will triumph over the apparent might of her captors.

माता सीता यहाँ एक भविष्यद्रष्टा की भाँति बात कर रही हैं। यद्यपि वे अशोक वाटिका में कैद हैं और बाहरी दुनिया से कटी हुई हैं, तथापि प्रकृति और वातावरण में व्याप्त 'अशुभानि' (अशुभ संकेतों) को वे स्पष्ट महसूस कर सकती हैं। भारतीय परंपरा में यह माना जाता है कि जब किसी राजा या राज्य का विनाश निकट होता है, तो प्रकृति पहले से चेतावनी देने लगती है। सीता जी का यह कथन उनके आत्मविश्वास और सत्य के बल को दर्शाता है। वे जानती हैं कि रावण का अधर्म लंका के वैभव (प्रभा) को उसी प्रकार नष्ट कर देगा, जैसे अंधकार प्रकाश को निगल लेता है। यह श्लोक यह भी इंगित करता है कि रावण के पापों का घड़ा भर चुका है और अब दैवीय न्याय की प्रक्रिया शुरू होने वाली है।
