नैते धर्मं विजानन्ति राक्षसाः पिशिताशनाः ।
ध्रुवं मां प्रातराशार्थे राक्षसः कल्पयिष्यति ।

Naite dharmaṃ vijānanti rākṣasāḥ piśitāśanāḥ |
Dhruvaṃ māṃ prātarāśārthe rākṣasaḥ kalpayiṣyati ॥5-26-36॥
Translation
These flesh-eating demons do not know virtue (Dharma). Surely, the demon (Ravana) will designate me for his morning meal.

ये मांसभक्षी राक्षस धर्म को नहीं जानते। निश्चित रूप से वह राक्षस (रावण) मुझे अपने सुबह के भोजन (कलेवा) के लिए तैयार करेगा।
English Commentary
Here, the abstract fear of death turns into a graphic and visceral terror. Sita recalls Ravana’s explicit threat of cannibalism. She refers to the demons as pishitashanah (eaters of raw flesh), emphasizing their savage nature. She fears Ravana will make her his pratar-asha (morning meal/breakfast). This stark realism—fearing she will be butchered and eaten—highlights the extreme psychological torture she is undergoing. It is not just death she fears, but the desecration of her body and the indignity of such an end. This moment of vulnerability contrasts sharply with her earlier fiery prophecies, showing the human toll of her captivity.

यह श्लोक सीता जी की घोर निराशा और भय को दर्शाता है। रावण ने धमकी दी थी कि यदि सीता ने उसे स्वीकार नहीं किया तो रसोइये उसे काटकर नाश्ते के लिए पका देंगे। यहाँ सीता जी उसी भयानक संभावना पर विचार कर रही हैं। वे राक्षसों को 'पिशिताशनाः' (कच्चा मांस खाने वाले) कहती हैं, जिससे उनकी बर्बरता स्पष्ट होती है। 'प्रातराशार्थे' (नाश्ते के लिए) शब्द का प्रयोग रोंगटे खड़े करने वाला है। एक राजपुत्री और मर्यादा पुरुषोत्तम की पत्नी के लिए, इस प्रकार की मृत्यु की कल्पना ही अत्यंत कष्टदायक है। यह श्लोक उनकी मानसिक स्थिति की नाजुकता और उस भीषण वातावरण को दर्शाता है जिसमें वे जी रही हैं।
