Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
नाजानाज्जीवतीं रामः स मां लक्ष्मणपूर्वजः ।
जानन्तौ तौ न कुर्यातां नोर्व्यां हि मम मार्गणम् ।
।
॥५-२६-३९॥
Nājānājjīvatīṃ rāmaḥ sa māṃ lakṣmaṇapūrvajaḥ |
Jānantau tau na kuryātāṃ norvyāṃ hi mama mārgaṇam ॥5-26-39॥
Translation
That Rama, the elder brother of Lakshmana, does not know I am alive due to ignorance (of my location). If those two knew, they would not fail to search for me all over the earth.
हिंदी अनुवाद
लक्ष्मण के बड़े भाई वे श्रीराम अज्ञानतावश (पता न होने के कारण) ही यह नहीं जानते कि मैं जीवित हूँ। यदि वे दोनों (राम और लक्ष्मण) जानते, तो क्या वे पूरी पृथ्वी पर मुझे न खोजते? (अवश्य खोजते)।
English Commentary
Sita pulls herself back from the brink of suicidal despair by using logic to preserve her faith in Rama. She reasons that the only explanation for Rama’s absence is his lack of knowledge (ajanaat) regarding her survival. She convinces herself that he might think she is already dead. She affirms that if Rama and Lakshmana knew she was alive, they would leave no stone unturned on this earth (urvyam) to find her. This rationalization is crucial for her psychological survival. It vindicates Rama’s honor (he isn't ignoring her) and restores her own worth (she is worth searching for). This thought process shifts her from despair back to a fragile hope.

इस श्लोक में सीता जी पुनः अपने तर्क और विश्वास को स्थापित करती हैं। वे आत्महत्या के विचार को त्यागकर, राम के न आने का तार्किक कारण ढूँढती हैं। वे निष्कर्ष निकालती हैं कि राम के प्रेम या सामर्थ्य में कमी नहीं है, केवल उन्हें यह 'ज्ञात' नहीं है कि सीता जीवित हैं। शायद राम सोच रहे हों कि सीता मर चुकी हैं या रावण ने उन्हें खा लिया है। सीता जी कहती हैं कि यदि राम और लक्ष्मण को पता होता, तो वे 'उर्व्यां' (सम्पूर्ण पृथ्वी) को छान मारते। यह विचार उन्हें सांत्वना देता है कि वे त्यागी नहीं गई हैं, बल्कि केवल खो गई हैं। यह 'आशा का तिनका' ही उन्हें जीवित रखे हुए है।
