नूनं ममैव शोकेन स वीरो लक्ष्मणाग्रजः ।
देवलोकमितो यातस्त्यक्त्वा देहं महीतले ।
।
॥५-२६-४०॥
Nūnaṃ mamaiva śokena sa vīro lakṣmaṇāgrajaḥ |
Devalokamito yātastyaktvā dehaṃ mahītale ॥5-26-40॥
Translation
Surely, that hero, the elder brother of Lakshmana (Rama), has departed from here to the abode of gods (Devaloka), having abandoned his body on the earth due to grief for me alone.
हिंदी अनुवाद
निश्चय ही वे वीर, लक्ष्मण के बड़े भाई (श्रीराम), मेरे ही शोक के कारण पृथ्वी पर अपना शरीर त्याग कर यहाँ से देवलोक चले गए हैं।
English Commentary
Overwhelmed by pessimism, Sita hypothesizes the worst regarding Rama’s silence. She believes that Rama, being a being of immense sensitivity and deep love, might have succumbed not to any enemy, but to shoka (grief) caused by her abduction. By using the term Lakshmanagrajah (elder brother of Lakshmana) and vira (hero), she acknowledges his martial prowess—implying he could not be killed in battle. Therefore, the only explanation for his absence must be that he voluntarily gave up his body (tyaktva deham) unable to bear the separation. It is a tragic testament to how she perceives the intensity of their bond.

सीता जी के मन में निराशा के काले बादल इतने घने हो गए हैं कि वे अब सबसे बुरी संभावनाओं की कल्पना कर रही हैं। उन्हें लगता है कि श्रीराम का उनसे प्रेम इतना गहरा है कि वे वियोग को सहन नहीं कर सके होंगे। 'ममैव शोकेन' (मेरे ही शोक से) वाक्यांश उनके इस विश्वास को दर्शाता है कि राम के जीवन का केंद्र सीता थीं। वे सोचती हैं कि शायद राम ने विरह-वेदना में प्राण त्याग दिए हैं। यह एक पत्नी का अपने पति के प्रेम पर अटूट विश्वास भी है और विवशता से उपजी घोर निराशा भी। वे राम को 'वीर' कहती हैं, जिसका अर्थ है कि वे युद्ध में नहीं हार सकते, केवल प्रेम की पीड़ा ही उन्हें हरा सकती है।
