राक्षसीवशमापन्ना भर्त्स्यमाना सुदारुणम् ।
चिन्तयन्ती सुदुःखार्ता नाहं जीवितुमुत्सहे ।

rākṣasīvaśamāpannā bhartsyamānā sudāruṇam |
cintayantī suduḥkhārtā nāhaṃ jīvitumutsahe ॥5-26-4॥
Translation
Fallen under the control of demonesses, being threatened quietly dreadfully, and reflecting deeply on my plight, I am tormented by grief and have no enthusiasm to continue living.
हिंदी अनुवाद
राक्षसियों के वश में पड़ी हुई, अत्यंत कठोरता से धमकाई जाती हुई और (अपनी विपत्ति का) चिंतन करती हुई मैं अत्यंत दुःखी हूँ और अब जीवित नहीं रहना चाहती।
English Commentary
This verse captures the total erosion of Sita's will to live (jīvitumutsahe - enthusiasm to live). The external pressure is described by bhartsyamānā (being threatened/reviled), referring to the psychological torture by the guards. The internal pressure is cintayantī (thinking/brooding). The combination of external threat and internal despair leads her to the conclusion that life is no longer worth sustaining. It sets a somber tone, emphasizing that for a noble soul, indignity and separation from the divine are reasons enough to reject existence itself.

यह श्लोक माता सीता की मानसिक स्थिति के पूर्ण पतन (breakdown) को दर्शाता है। 'भर्त्स्यमाना' (धमकाई जाती हुई) और 'चिन्तयन्ती' (चिंता करती हुई) - ये दो शब्द उनके बाहरी और भीतरी संघर्ष को दिखाते हैं। बाहर राक्षसियों का भय है, और भीतर विचारों का तूफ़ान। 'नाहं जीवितुमुत्सहे' (मैं जीने का उत्साह नहीं रखती) एक अत्यंत गंभीर कथन है। जीवन की जिजीविषा (will to live) तभी समाप्त होती है जब व्यक्ति को भविष्य में आशा की कोई किरण नहीं दिखती। सीता जी यहाँ उस बिंदु पर पहुँच चुकी हैं जहाँ मृत्यु उन्हें जीवन से अधिक सुखद प्रतीत हो रही है।
