अथवा नहि तस्यार्थो धर्मकामस्य धीमतः ।
मया रामस्य राजर्षेर्भार्यया परमात्मनः ।
।
॥५-२६-४२॥
Athavā nahi tasyārtho dharmakāmasya dhīmataḥ |
Mayā rāmasya rājarṣerbhāryayā paramātmanaḥ ॥5-26-42॥
Translation
Or perhaps, for that wise one who desires Dharma, for that Rajarshi (royal sage), for that supreme soul Rama, there is no longer any need for me, his wife.
हिंदी अनुवाद
अथवा (यह भी हो सकता है कि) उन धर्मप्रेमी, बुद्धिमान, राजर्षि और महात्मा श्रीराम को मुझ पत्नी से अब कोई प्रयोजन (अर्थ) न रह गया हो।
English Commentary
Sita shifts from fearing Rama's death to fearing his detachment. She wonders if Rama, defined here as a Rajarshi (sage-king) and Paramatma (supreme soul/high-souled one), has transcended the need for a wife. The word arthah implies purpose or utility. She questions if she has ceased to be relevant to his life's mission, especially since he is dharma-kama (intent on virtue). This reflects the insecurity of separation—wondering if the partner has moved on to a plane of existence where emotional bonds are considered obstacles. It is a heartbreaking rationalization for his prolonged absence.

अब सीता जी के मन में एक नया संदेह उत्पन्न होता है। वे सोचती हैं कि शायद राम की मृत्यु नहीं हुई है, बल्कि उन्होंने 'वैराग्य' ले लिया है। राम 'धर्मकाम' (धर्म की कामना करने वाले) और 'धीमतः' (बुद्धिमान) हैं। सीता जी को लगता है कि हो सकता है वनवास के कष्टों ने राम को एक 'राजर्षि' (राजा जो ऋषि समान हो) बना दिया हो, जिसे अब पत्नी या गृहस्थ जीवन से कोई मोह न हो। 'परमात्मनः' शब्द का प्रयोग यहाँ राम के उच्च आध्यात्मिक स्तर को दर्शाता है। सीता जी सोच रही हैं कि क्या राम ने मोक्ष या उच्च धर्म के लिए उन्हें त्याग दिया है? यह एक प्रेमिका का भय है कि कहीं उसका प्रेमी उससे 'ऊपर' तो नहीं उठ गया।
