Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सा ऽहं त्यक्ता प्रियेणेह रामेण विदितात्मना ।
प्राणांस्त्याक्श्यामि पापस्य रावणस्य गता वशम् ।

Sā 'haṃ tyaktā priyeṇeha rāmeṇa viditātmanā |
Prāṇāṃstyakṣyāmi pāpasya rāvaṇasya gatā vaśam ॥5-26-51॥
Translation
I, who have been abandoned here by my beloved Rama, the knower of the self, and who have fallen under the control of the sinful Ravana, shall give up my life.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वह मैं, जिसे आत्मज्ञानी प्रियतम राम ने (शायद) त्याग दिया है और जो पापी रावण के वश में पड़ गई हूँ, अब अपने प्राणों का त्याग कर दूँगी।
English Commentary
Sita returns from philosophy to her grim reality. She perceives herself as tyakta (abandoned) by the virtuous Rama (viditatmana - one who knows the self/truth) and entrapped by the vile Ravana. Being caught between the assumed indifference of the savior and the active malice of the captor, she sees no other exit. She makes a firm resolve: pranan tyakshyami (I will abandon my life). This marks the nadir of her despair, setting the dramatic stage for the intervention that is about to happen (Hanuman's appearance). It highlights the darkness just before the dawn.

दार्शनिक चिंतन के बाद सीता जी पुनः कठोर वास्तविकता पर लौट आती हैं। वे निष्कर्ष निकालती हैं कि वे 'त्यक्ता' (त्याग दी गई) हैं। राम 'विदितात्मना' (आत्मज्ञानी) हैं, शायद इसलिए उन्होंने सीता का मोह छोड़ दिया है। दूसरी ओर, वे 'पापस्य रावणस्य' (पापी रावण) के 'वशम्' (नियंत्रण) में हैं। एक ओर उपेक्षा और दूसरी ओर अत्याचार—इस स्थिति का एकमात्र समाधान उन्हें 'प्राणांस्त्याक्श्यामि' (प्राण त्यागना) ही दिखाई देता है। यह सर्ग का अंतिम भाग है जहाँ सीता जी का अवसाद (depression) अपने चरम पर पहुँचकर आत्महत्या के निर्णय में बदल जाता है। (यही वह क्षण है जहाँ हनुमान जी प्रकट होने की भूमिका बनाते हैं)।
