वराहेण दशग्रीवः शिंशुमारेण चेन्द्रजित् ।
उष्ट्रेण कुम्भकर्णश्च प्रयातो दक्षिणां दिशम् ।

varāheṇa daśagrīvaḥ śiṃśumāreṇa cendrajit |
uṣṭreṇa kumbhakarṇaśca prayāto dakṣiṇāṃ diśam ॥5-27-30॥
Translation
"Ravana went on a boar, Indrajit on a porpoise (or crocodile), and Kumbhakarna on a camel; they all departed towards the southern direction."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"दशग्रीव (रावण) सुअर (वराह) पर, इन्द्रजीत मगरमच्छ (शिशुमार) पर और कुम्भकर्ण ऊँट पर सवार होकर दक्षिण दिशा की ओर प्रस्थान कर गए।"
English Commentary
Specific beasts are assigned to the warriors for their journey to the afterlife. While verse 24 mentioned a donkey for Ravana, here the dream imagery shifts to a boar (varāheṇa), likely symbolizing filth or aggression. Indrajit rides a śiṃśumāra (porpoise/crocodile), fitting for a warrior who fights deceptively or hides (like in clouds/water). Kumbhakarna rides a camel (uṣṭreṇa), an animal of ungainly stature. All are heading South. The consistency of the direction confirms the inescapable nature of their death, regardless of the vehicle.

स्वप्न में वाहन बदलते रहते हैं, पर उनका अर्थ वही रहता है। सुअर, मगरमच्छ और ऊँट—ये सभी तामसिक और उग्र स्वभाव वाले प्राणी माने गए हैं। वराह (सुअर) गंदगी में रहता है, शिशुमार जल का हिंसक जीव है, और ऊँट विषम परिस्थितियों का। इन पर सवार होकर 'दक्षिण दिशा' जाना मृत्यु यात्रा है। इन्द्रजीत और कुम्भकर्ण जैसे महायोद्धाओं का इन पशुओं पर जाना उनकी वीरगति का नहीं, बल्कि दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण अंत का सूचक है। यह तीनों लोकों के लिए त्रासदायी शक्तियों के अंत की घोषणा है।
