Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
समाजश्च मया दृष्टो गीतवादित्रनिःस्वनः ।
पिबतां रक्तमाल्यानां रक्षसां रक्तवाससाम् ।

५.२७.३४।। ॥५-२७-३४॥
samājaśca mayā dṛṣṭo gītavāditraniḥsvanaḥ |
pibatāṃ raktamālyānāṃ rakṣasāṃ raktavāsasām ॥5-27-34॥
Translation
"I also saw a gathering of Rakshasas wearing red garlands and red garments, drinking (intoxicants), amidst the sound of songs and musical instruments."

"और मैंने लाल माला और लाल वस्त्र पहने, मदिरा पीते हुए राक्षसों का एक समूह (समाज) भी देखा, जहाँ गीत और वाद्यों का शोर हो रहा था।"
English Commentary
Trijata describes the general populace of Lanka. The scene is one of hedonistic revelry (gītavāditra - music and song) and intoxication (pibatāṃ). However, the recurring motif of "red" (rakta) for garlands and clothes casts a macabre pall over the celebration. In the context of the previous verses, this red is the color of death and blood. It depicts a society oblivious to its doom, dancing on the edge of a volcano. It contrasts sharply with the serene, white auspiciousness surrounding Vibhishana.

यह राक्षसों की 'अंतिम पार्टी' या विनाश पूर्व के उन्माद का चित्रण है। वे अभी भी भोग-विलास, मदिरापान और संगीत में लिप्त हैं, अनजान हैं कि काल उनके सिर पर मंडरा रहा है। लाल वस्त्र और लाल माला (रक्तमाल्या...) यहाँ उत्सव के नहीं, बल्कि वध किए जाने वाले पशुओं के श्रृंगार समान हैं। यह दृश्य उनकी तामसिक प्रवृत्ति और आसन्न मृत्यु के बीच की विडंबना को दर्शाता है—वे अपनी ही चिता के गीत गा रहे हैं।
