सीतां ताभिरनार्याभिर्दृष्ट्वा सन्तर्जितां तदा ।
राक्षसी त्रिजटा वृद्धा शयाना वाक्यमब्रवीत् ।

sītāṃ tābhiranāryābhirdṛṣṭvā santarjitāṃ tadā |
rākṣasī trijaṭā vṛddhā śayānā vākyamabravīt ॥5-27-4॥
Translation
Seeing Sita being threatened in such a manner by those ignoble ogresses, an old demoness named Trijata, who had been sleeping, spoke these words.

तब उन दुष्ट (अनार्य) राक्षसियों द्वारा सीता को इस प्रकार धमकाए जाते देख, वहां सो रही त्रिजटा नामक एक बूढ़ी राक्षसी जगी और यह वचन बोली।
English Commentary
This verse introduces the "Deus ex machina" of this scene. Trijata is distinguished from the mob by her age (vṛddhā) and her state (she was sleeping, implying she was not part of the harassment). Her awakening symbolizes the awakening of wisdom amidst ignorance. In literary terms, she acts as a protector figure. The contrast is sharp: while the "ignoble" (anāryābhiḥ) young Rakshasis threaten, the wise elder intervenes. It prepares the reader for a shift in tone from terror to prophetic revelation.

यहाँ कथा में एक महत्वपूर्ण मोड़ आता है। 'त्रिजटा' का पात्र राक्षस कुल में विवेक और ज्ञान का प्रतीक है। 'वृद्धा' विशेषण उसके अनुभव और सम्मान को दर्शाता है; प्राचीन साहित्य में वृद्ध पात्र अक्सर भविष्यदृष्टा या नीति-निपुण होते हैं। जब अत्याचार अपनी सीमा पार कर गया, तब एक सोई हुई शक्ति (विवेक) जागृत हुई। यह दर्शाता है कि घोर अंधकार (लंका) में भी धर्म का कोई न कोई अंश (विभीषण, त्रिजटा) जीवित रहता है। उसका जागना सीता के लिए आशा की किरण है।
