प्रियां बहुमतां भार्यां वनवासमनुव्रताम् ।
भर्त्सितां तर्जितां वापि नानुमंस्यति राघवः ।

Priyāṃ bahumatāṃ bhāryāṃ vanavāsamanuvratām । Bhartsitāṃ tarjitāṃ vāpi nānumaṃsyati rāghavaḥ । । ॥5-27-40॥
Translation
Raghava will never tolerate his beloved and highly honored wife, who followed him even into the forest exile, being threatened, scolded, or intimidated.

अपनी प्रिय और सम्मानित पत्नी, जो वनवास में भी उनके साथ आई है, उसे धमकाया जाना या उसका अपमान किया जाना श्री राम कभी सहन नहीं करेंगे।
English Commentary
Trijata explains the gravity of the Rakshasis' mistake. Sita is not just a wife; she is 'Bahumatam' (highly honored) and a partner in dharma who followed Rama into the hardships of the forest ('Vanavasamanuvratam'). This loyalty makes her sacred to Rama. Trijata argues that Rama might forgive a political enemy, but he will never forgive those who abused the vulnerable woman who sacrificed everything for him. It emphasizes the protective nature of the Lord towards his devotee; abusing the devotee is the surest way to invite the Lord's wrath.

यह श्लोक सीता जी के प्रति राम के प्रेम और सीता जी के पातिव्रत्य धर्म दोनों को रेखांकित करता है। 'वनवासमनुव्रताम्' विशेषण अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है—यह बताता है कि सीता ने सुख त्यागकर स्वेच्छा से राम के साथ कष्ट सहे हैं, इसलिए वे राम को प्राणों से भी अधिक प्रिय हैं। त्रिजटा राक्षसियों को समझाती है कि एक तो वह राम की पत्नी है, दूसरा वह वनवास की तपस्विनी है; ऐसे में उसे डराना ('तर्जितां') अक्षम्य अपराध है। राम अन्य अपराध क्षमा कर सकते हैं, किन्तु अपनी शरणागत और पतिव्रता पत्नी का अपमान वे कदापि क्षमा नहीं करेंगे।
