निमित्तभूतमेतत्तु श्रोतुमस्या महत् प्रियम् ।
दृश्यते च स्फुरच्चक्षुः पद्मपत्रमिवायणम् ।
।
॥५-२७-४८॥
Nimittabhūtametattu śrotumasyā mahat priyam । Dṛśyate ca sphuraccakṣuḥ padmapatramivāyatam । । ॥5-27-48॥
Translation
To hear this great and pleasant news, an omen has indeed appeared; her large eye, resembling a lotus petal, is seen throbbing.
हिंदी अनुवाद
इस महान प्रिय समाचार को सुनने के लिए शकुन (निमित्त) भी प्रकट हो गया है; देखो, कमल की पंखुड़ी के समान इनका विशाल (बायां) नेत्र फड़क रहा है।
English Commentary
Trijata moves from interpreting her dream to pointing out an immediate, physical omen (Nimitta) occurring on Sita’s body. In Indian tradition, the throbbing of a woman's left eye is a harbinger of good news or the return of a beloved. By pointing out Sita’s lotus-like eye (Padma-patram) throbbing, Trijata anchors her prophecy in immediate reality. It serves as a confirmation to the doubtful Rakshasis and a comforting sign to Sita that the wheel of fortune has indeed started turning in her favor at that very moment.
हिंदी टीका
त्रिजटा अपनी बात को प्रत्यक्ष प्रमाण (Proof) से सिद्ध करती है। स्त्रियों के लिए बाएं अंग (आँख या भुजा) का फड़कना अत्यंत शुभ माना जाता है। अभी त्रिजटा ने स्वप्न सुनाया ही था कि सीता की बाईं आँख फड़कने लगी। 'निमित्तभूतम्' का अर्थ है कि भविष्य की घटना का संकेत अभी मिल गया है। 'पद्मपत्रमिवायतम्' सीता की आँखों की सुंदरता का वर्णन करता है। त्रिजटा कहती है, "देखो! प्रकृति भी मेरी बात का समर्थन कर रही है।" यह सीता के लिए आश्वासन है कि अच्छे दिन अब दूर नहीं हैं।
