दृश्यते च स्फुरच्चक्षुः पद्मपत्रमिवायतम् ।
ईषच्च हृषितो वा ऽस्या दक्षिणाया ह्यदक्षिणः ।
।
॥५-२७-४९॥
Dṛśyate ca sphuraccakṣuḥ padmapatramivāyatam |
Īṣacca hṛṣito vā 'syā dakṣiṇāyā hyadakṣiṇaḥ ॥5-27-49॥
Translation
Her left eye, large and expansive like a lotus petal, began to throb visibly. It appeared slightly delighted (widened), signaling a good omen for the virtuous Sita (as the throbbing of the left eye is auspicious for women).
हिंदी अनुवाद
कमल की पंखुड़ी के समान विशाल, उन पतिव्रता (सीता) का बायाँ नेत्र फड़कने लगा और वह (नेत्र) मानों (हर्ष से) थोड़ा प्रफुल्लित भी हो गया। (स्त्रियों के लिए बाएँ अंगों का फड़कना शुभ माना जाता है)।
English Commentary
This verse marks a pivotal shift in the narrative atmosphere. Just as the demonesses were inflicting psychological terror, nature began to intervene with signs of hope. In Indian tradition (Samudrika Shastra), the throbbing of the left eye is considered highly auspicious for women, signaling the arrival of good news or a beloved one. The metaphor "like a lotus petal" (padmapatramivāyatam) retains the dignity and divine beauty of Sita even in her darkest hour. It suggests that despite the external despair, destiny is silently conspiring to bring about her reunion with Rama.

यह श्लोक वाल्मीकि रामायण में एक महत्वपूर्ण मोड़ को दर्शाता है। जहाँ एक ओर राक्षसियाँ सीता जी को डरा रही थीं, वहीं दूसरी ओर प्रकृति और शकुन उन्हें सांत्वना दे रहे थे। भारतीय सामुद्रिक शास्त्र के अनुसार, स्त्रियों के लिए बाएँ अंगों का फड़कना अत्यंत शुभ माना जाता है, जबकि पुरुषों के लिए दायाँ। यहाँ 'पद्मपत्रमिवायतम्' (कमल के पत्ते के समान विशाल) उपमा सीता जी के नेत्रों की सुंदरता और पवित्रता को बनाए रखती है, भले ही वे अत्यधिक शोक में हों। यह संकेत देता है कि उनका दुख का समय अब समाप्त होने वाला है और प्रभु श्री राम का आगमन निकट है।
