Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
मोघो हि धर्मश्चरितो मया ऽयं तथैकपत्नीत्वमिदं निरर्थम् ।
या त्वां न पश्यामि कृशा विवर्णा हीना त्वया सङ्गमने निराशा ।

Mogho hi dharmaścarito mayā 'yaṃ tathaikapatnītvamidaṃ nirartham |
yā tvāṃ na paśyāmi kṛśā vivarṇā hīṇā tvayā saṅgamane nirāśā ॥5-28-13॥
Translation
Indeed, the Dharma I have practiced is in vain, and this fidelity to one husband is meaningless; for I, who have become emaciated and pale, am now bereft of you and have lost all hope of reunion.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मेरे द्वारा पालन किया गया यह धर्म व्यर्थ है और मेरा यह पातिव्रत्य (एकपत्नीत्व) भी निरर्थक है; क्योंकि मैं—जो कृश (दुबली) और विवर्ण (पीली) हो गई हूँ—अब आपसे हीन होकर, आपसे मिलने की आशा भी खो चुकी हूँ।
English Commentary
Continuing her despondency, Sita declares her adherence to Dharma as mogha (futile). Her physical deterioration—emaciated and pale—reflects her inner crumbling. For Sita, the sole purpose of her righteousness was to be worthy of and united with Rama. With hope of reunion (saṅgamane) extinguishing, the means (Dharma) seem pointless without the end (Rama). This is not a rejection of Dharma, but a cry of grief where life without the beloved renders everything else meaningless.
हिंदी टीका
यह पिछले श्लोक का ही विस्तार है। सीता जी की शारीरिक स्थिति—'कृशा' (कमजोर) और 'विवर्णा' (कांतिहीन)—उनके मानसिक संताप का दर्पण है। धर्म का उद्देश्य प्रायः सुख या मोक्ष होता है, लेकिन सीता के लिए धर्म का एकमात्र उद्देश्य 'राम की प्राप्ति' था। जब 'संगमने निराशा' (मिलन की आशा समाप्त) हो गई, तो उन्हें धर्म पालन भी 'मोघ' (व्यर्थ) प्रतीत हो रहा है। यह एक प्रेमिका की चरम वेदना है, न कि धर्म की निंदा।
