इतीव देवी बहुधा विलप्य सर्वात्मना राममनुस्मरन्ती ।
प्रवेपमाना परिशुष्कवक्त्रा नगोत्तमं पुष्पितमाससाद ।

Itīva devī bahudhā vilapya sarvātmanā rāmamanusmarantī |
pravepamānā pariśuṣkavaktrā nagottamaṃ puṣpitamāsasāda ॥5-28-17॥
Translation
Lamenting in various ways like this, remembering Rama with her whole soul, trembling and with a parched mouth, the divine Sita approached that excellent flowering tree.
हिंदी अनुवाद
इस प्रकार अनेक तरह से विलाप करके और पूरे मन से राम का स्मरण करती हुई, कांपती हुई और सूखे मुख वाली देवी सीता उस पुष्पित (फूलों से लदे) श्रेष्ठ वृक्ष के पास पहुँचीं।
English Commentary
Moving from contemplation to action, Sita approaches the tree to commit suicide. Her physical symptoms—trembling and a dry mouth—manifest her extreme anxiety and grief. Despite her resolved mind, her body reacts with fear. The image of the "flowering tree" (puṣpitam) contrasts sharply with her grim intention; nature is blooming while she prepares to wither away.

शोक और विलाप के बाद अब 'क्रिया' (Action) का समय है। सीता जी का शरीर दुख से जर्जर हो चुका है—वे कांप रही हैं ('प्रवेपमाना') और उनका गला सूख गया है ('परिशुष्कवक्त्रा')। वे उसी अशोक वृक्ष (सिंशपा वृक्ष) की ओर बढ़ती हैं जिसके नीचे वे बैठी थीं, ताकि अपने प्राण दे सकें। फूलों से लदा वृक्ष ('पुष्पितं') जीवन और सौंदर्य का प्रतीक है, लेकिन सीता उसे मृत्यु के साधन के रूप में देख रही हैं।
