उपस्थिता सा मृदुसर्वगात्रा शाखां गृहीत्वा ऽथ नगस्य तस्य ।

Upasthitā sā mṛdusarvagātrā śākhāṃ gṛhītvā 'tha nagasya tasya ॥5-28-19॥
Translation
She, of delicate limbs, stood there holding a branch of that tree, ready (to end her life).
हिंदी अनुवाद
कोमल अंगों वाली वह सीता उस वृक्ष की शाखा को पकड़कर (फांसी लगाने के लिए) तैयार होकर खड़ी हो गईं।
English Commentary
This verse freezes the action at the precipice of tragedy. Sita stands ready, holding the branch, poised to jump. The descriptor mṛdusarvagātrā (soft-limbed in all parts) accentuates her vulnerability and the harshness of the death she is choosing. It creates immense tension, emphasizing that the delicate princess is pushed to the absolute brink of endurance.

यह एक 'क्लिफहैंगर' (तनावपूर्ण) क्षण है। 'मृदुसर्वगात्रा' (कोमल अंगों वाली) विशेषण का प्रयोग कवि ने जानबूझकर किया है ताकि सीता की सुकुमारता और उनके द्वारा उठाए जा रहे कठोर कदम के बीच विरोधाभास दिखाया जा सके। वे जीवन और मृत्यु के बीच खड़ी हैं, वृक्ष की शाखा को पकड़े हुए। पाठक/श्रोता की सांसें यहाँ थम सी जाती हैं कि क्या अब सच में अनर्थ हो जाएगा।
