दुःखं बतेदं मम दुःखिताया मासौ चिरायाधिगमिष्यतो द्वौ ।
बद्धस्य वध्यस्य तथा निशान्ते राजापराधादिव तस्करस्य ।

Duḥkhaṃ batedaṃ mama duḥkhitāyā māsau cirāyādhigamiṣyato dvau |
baddhasya vadhyasya tathā niśānte rājāparādhādiva taskarasya ॥5-28-7॥
Translation
Alas! For me, sorrowful as I am, these two months will pass extremely slowly (feeling like an eternity). Just like the night passes for a thief who has offended the king, is bound, sentenced to death, and awaits execution at dawn.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हाय! मुझ दुखियारी के लिए ये दो महीने (जो रावण ने अवधि दी है) बहुत देर से बीतेंगे (काटे नहीं कटेंगे)। ठीक वैसे ही जैसे राजा के प्रति अपराध करने वाले, बंधन में पड़े और मृत्युदंड पाए हुए चोर के लिए (फांसी से पहले की) रात बड़ी कठिनाई से बीतती है।
English Commentary
Sita describes the psychological torture of waiting for an execution. She reflects on how the perception of time distorts during suffering. The "two months" granted by Ravana are not a respite but an agonizing countdown. The analogy of the condemned thief (taskarasya) awaiting execution at dawn captures the dread of the inevitable. Every moment of these two months will be filled with the anxiety of the looming end, making the duration feel infinitely long (cirāya). It portrays the torment of anticipation being as painful as the event itself.

समय की सापेक्षता (Relativity of time) का यहाँ सुंदर वर्णन है। दुख में समय ठहर सा जाता है। रावण ने दो माह की अवधि दी है, लेकिन सीता जी के लिए यह जीवनदान नहीं, बल्कि 'मृत्युदंड की प्रतीक्षा' है। उन्होंने अपनी तुलना उस चोर से की है जिसे सुबह फांसी होनी है। वह पूरी रात घबराहट और मौत के इंतजार में जागता है; हर पल एक युग जैसा लगता है। सीता जी की मानसिक स्थिति उस कैदी जैसी है जो अपनी अपरिहार्य मृत्यु की उल्टी गिनती गिन रहा है।
