ताम् नष्ट तिमिराम् दीपैः भास्वरैः च महा गृहैः ।
नगरीम् राक्षस इन्द्रस्य ददर्श स महा कपिः ॥५-३-१९॥
tām naṣṭa timirām dīpaiḥ bhāsvaraiḥ ca mahā gṛhaiḥ |
nagarīm rākṣasa indrasya dadarśa sa mahā kapiḥ ॥5-3-19॥
Translation
The great monkey beheld that city of the King of Rakshasas, where the darkness was dispelled by brilliant lamps and radiant great mansions.

उस महाकपि ने राक्षसराज की उस नगरी को देखा, जहाँ प्रकाशमान दीपकों और (मणिमय) विशाल भवनों के कारण अंधकार नष्ट हो गया था।
English Commentary
Valmiki describes a city that never sleeps. The 'Nashta timiram' (destroyed darkness) indicates advanced urban illumination, turning night into day. This artificial brilliance stands in contrast to the natural order. While the city is physically illuminated by lamps and glowing gems on mansions, it is spiritually darkened by Ravana's ego. Hanuman, the seer, looks past the dazzle to identify the target. It emphasizes that no amount of external light can hide the internal decay of Adharma.

रात्रि का समय होने पर भी लंका में अंधकार नहीं था। 'नष्ट तिमिराम्' (अंधकार नष्ट हो चुका था) का अर्थ है कृत्रिम प्रकाश की प्रचुरता। यह रावण की शक्ति का एक और प्रमाण है—उसने रात्रि को भी दिन में बदल दिया है। आध्यात्मिक अर्थ में, यह एक विरोधाभास है: भौतिक रूप से वहाँ बहुत प्रकाश है, परन्तु नैतिक रूप से वहाँ घोर अंधकार (अधर्म) है। हनुमान जी, जो ज्ञान के प्रतीक हैं, उस कृत्रिम प्रकाश वाली नगरी में वास्तविक 'सूर्य' (राम) का संदेश लेकर आए हैं।
