अथ सा हरिशार्दूलम् प्रविशन्तिम् महाबलम् ।
नगरी स्वेन रूपेण ददर्श पवनात्मजम् ॥५-३-२०॥
atha sā hariśārdūlam praviśantim mahābalam |
nagarī svena rūpeṇa dadarśa pavanātmajam ॥5-3-20॥
Translation
Then, the City (personified as a guardian deity) in her own form saw the son of the Wind-god, the tiger among monkeys and possessor of great strength, as he was entering.

तब उस नगरी (लंका की अधिष्ठात्री देवी) ने अपने वास्तविक रूप में, प्रवेश करते हुए महाबली हरिशार्दूल (वानरों में सिंह समान) पवनपुत्र को देखा।
English Commentary
The narrative shifts from description to confrontation. The metaphor becomes literal: the City manifests 'svena rupena' (in her own form) as a sentient guardian entity. This confirms that physical stealth allows one to bypass guards, but spiritual stealth is needed to bypass the presiding deity. She spots Hanuman entering. The tension peaks as the intruder is detected by the very soul of the fortress. It sets the stage for the first duel of the Sundarakanda—not with a soldier, but with the embodiment of Lanka itself.

यह एक अत्यंत रोमांचक क्षण है। अब तक लंका का मानवीकरण केवल कवि की कल्पना (रूपक) लग रहा था, किन्तु यहाँ 'नगरी स्वेन रूपेण' (नगरी अपने निज रूप में) प्रकट होती है। यह लंका की सुरक्षा व्यवस्था का अंतिम और सबसे रहस्यमय स्तर है—दैवीय सुरक्षा। लंका केवल ईंट-पत्थर नहीं, एक जाग्रत शक्ति है (लंकिनी)। उसने हनुमान जी को देख लिया, जिसका अर्थ है कि हनुमान जी का 'गुप्त' प्रवेश अब बाधित होने वाला है। 'हरिशार्दूल' (वानरों में बाघ) विशेषण हनुमान की आक्रामकता और शक्ति को दर्शाता है जो इस आसन्न संघर्ष के लिए तैयार हैं।
