अहम् राक्षसराजस्य रावणस्य महात्मनः ।
आज्ञाप्रतीक्षा दुर्धर्षा रक्षामि नगरीमिमाम् ॥५-३-२८॥
aham rākṣasarājasya rāvaṇasya mahātmanaḥ |
ājñāpratīkṣā durdharṣā rakṣāmi nagarīmimām ॥5-3-28॥
Translation
"I am the one who awaits the orders of the great-souled King of Rakshasas, Ravana. I am unconquerable, and I protect this city."

"मैं राक्षसराज महात्मा रावण की आज्ञा की प्रतीक्षा करने वाली और किसी से न दबने वाली (दुर्धर्षा) हूँ, जो इस नगरी की रक्षा करती हूँ।"
English Commentary
She declares her allegiance and power. Calling Ravana 'Mahatmanah' (great soul) indicates her totally skewed perspective; in the kingdom of demons, the greatest sinner is the 'great soul'. She defines herself as 'Durdharsha' (assailable/invincible), asserting that she has never been defeated. This establishes her as the personification of the city's sovereignty and impregnability.

यहाँ लंका अपना परिचय देती है। वह रावण को 'महात्मा' कहती है, जो विडंबनापूर्ण है, परन्तु एक सेवक के लिए उसका स्वामी महान ही होता है। 'आज्ञाप्रतीक्षा' (आज्ञा का पालन करने वाली) से उसकी निष्ठा स्पष्ट है। वह स्वयं को 'दुर्धर्षा' (जिसका दमन कठिन हो) कहती है, जो उसके आत्मविश्वास को दर्शाता है। वह स्पष्ट करती है कि वह कोई साधारण प्रहरी नहीं, अपितु नगरी की मुख्य रक्षक शक्ति है।
